The Objective!!

The objective of our project is to motivate the audience to think freely, to think out of their boxes whether they were students or workers.

We are making a conceptual graphical art to show how those people who think out of there boxes become happy and succeed and not trapped in their boring daily jobs.

The Essay

Creative Multimedia is a media and content that uses a variety of different content forms. It is an adjective which described as a medium containing multiple content forms. The term 'multimedia’ covers a wide aspect of combination of media opposed to the term ‘media’ which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms. The actual term of “Multimedia”, was first defined by Bob Goldstein (Bobb Goldsteinn) as to promote his opening of “LightWorks at L’Oursin” show (July 1966) at Southampton, Long Island.

Multimedia covers its application in a whole various aspect including advertisements, art, education, entertainment, engineering, medicine, mathematics, business, scientific research and spatial temporal applications. A few examples of them are creative industries, commercial, entertainment, fine arts, education, journalism, engineering, industry and medicine.

Creative multimedia covers a very wide scope in different categories and some of them can be explored through computer, illustration, photography and film. In the definition of creative thinking, computer is a device or a tool for generating ideas. Literally, it is a box which contains full of imaginations that we can come up with. However, there are lots of interaction between us and the computers. Computer is just a box that receives instructions from us. According to the research that we conducted, computer can do lots of stuff like programming, networking. Besides, many kinds of software are needed by a computer for them to work efficiently.

First of all, networking is an ‘IT’ thing now in this current era. Farm rendering, paint chat and P2P also are the few aspect of networking. For your information, a rendering farm is a place where a whole unit of hundreds of computer is prepared especially for the processing and rendering heavy 3D film animation, for example, the movie Avatar. Rendering farm is mostly for the development of 3D artworks, but do you know that in online networking, not that we can only chat online, we can even paint in collaboration with other users in the internet while chatting which is called paint chat. Besides online painting, other alternatives also can be used by using available software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Paint Shop Pro. Other than that, computers can help a lot in building your own career. A lot of people have start making serious business in making website designs and blogs to gain income. Using html as a starting point in designing websites, they make their way up to more advanced level of programming such as Java, C++ and visual BASIC.

Apart of that, a big contribution to creative multimedia is the existence of photography. Photography is one of the various ways of creative thinking by how we present them and the story it reflect from the photos. Photography can be presented in two ways. By display, which are photos that are editable and are uploaded on the internet which later can be kept in an e-gallery such as a website called DeviantArt. Other than that is by prints. Which photos are printed and later can be kept in a gallery. These digital photos can be edited to add more effects or to correct the color of the photos which can be done by several software such as Adobe Photoshop, LightRoom and Photomatix.

Moreover, film also falls in the category of digital because mainly, the tools like camera, convert the reflected light to digital form and it requires software for editing (post-production) such as Adobe Premiere, After Effect and other animation software. There are many types of film. For example, a silent movie (Charlie Chaplin), documentary ( National Geographic), short movies and lots more. These films also are categorized in different genres such as comedy, horror, action and sci-fi. Films are developing and evolving rapidly through the years and has been one of the most important element in creative multimedia.

As what have been explained, we, as a student of the faculty of creative multimedia, do feel aware of the importance of the aspects have been mentioned and we applied them in our daily lives, and how exactly we apply them? This is when you need to think out-of-the-box! Be creative and unlimit your imagination. Thinking out of the box is meant by willingness to take new perspective in life, doing things differently and being open to them, focus on the value of finding new ideas, striving to create value in new ways, listen to other and supporting them with their ideas.

Thinking out-of-the-box is the ability of us to open our minds to new ways of seeing the world and the willingness to explore them. Do not be an inside-of-the-box thinker because they are skillful in killing ideas by having to think anything of being too risky to take. The important thing is to make action on the ideas created. Results are what counts.

Lesson 6 (Week 7): Juxtaposition 2

Class Exercise

Given was 2 groups of words, each are numbered and we were asked to chose 3 combinations of numbers.

My number was 04, 19, & 91.

We were also asked to make sentences out of combined words.

04 – Fly Mountain
I want to fly across the mountain.

19 – Flower Rain
My flower won’t drink the rain.
91 – Leaf Water
The leaf drowned in the water. POEM

Love and Chili
Love is like accidentally rubbing your eyes with a red chili.
It might be painful and made you cry for a while,
But it will also make you laugh at the end of the day,Because now you know how the pain feels like.

Lesson 5 (Week 6): Juxtaposition

Definition (http://dictionary.reference.com/)

1. The act or instance of placing close together or side by side, especially for comparison and contrast
2. The state of being close together or side by side

Juxtaposition is famous in film as well as in photography.

Here’re some examples of juxtaposition in photography:

A hot young model and an old man – Like it or not, though you may be young and hot now, someday somehow you will definitely be old.

A car and a bicycle – Modern transportation versus the old one. Though many may prefer car as a transportation nowadays, bicycle still stays solid as affordable, light-weight and green transportation ever.

Ruins of an old building and new modern buildings in the city – They might be ruins but they are still the most valuable thing in a country’s history.

A man and a woman – An old photograph of man and woman of the olden days where man was the one who have to go to work and make money where else woman would be the housewife, taking care of all the house chores (taking care of kids, husband, etc).

Lesson 5 (Week 6): Juxtaposition [Feedback]

Exercise

MAN – GOLDFISH TIED WITH SHARK FIN
Man is like a goldfish tied with shark fin. As good looking and tough as a man might be, there will always still be fear somewhere inside.

LOVE – A CUP OF TEA
Love is like a cup of tea. Many may prefer them to be sweet but others may prefer the other way round with (maybe) a little twist.

LOVE – CREDIT CARDS
Love is like credit cards. Swap them as many times as you like but in the end, you will still have to pay the bills.

HAPPINESS – CLOCKS
Happiness is like clocks. Every ticking moment could mean a lot to oneself.

PAIN – ICE CREAM
Pain is like ice cream. Overtime, pain will be washed away eventually.

LIFE - BURNING FIRE
Life is like burning fire. It is full of dramas!

Lesson 4 (Week 5): Associated Mind Map

Sometimes something doesn't really have to perfectly related to something in particular. Relationship of something to another can just be something logical like when you think of a cow, of course you will think of milk, after that could be cheese or any dairy products but have you ever think that in relation to cow, there should be the word 'smelly' and this could be further branched to poo or something else and so on.

Here I attached some pictures:

Class Exercise: Mortar and Pestle

We were asked to choose 5 keywords from the given mind map about Mortar & Pestle shown in class and we had to build our own mind map from those chosen words and also its function.

Chosen keywords: headache, devil, sun, medical and money.

1. Headache
To cure headache - Place mortar on top of your head and knock pestle over mortar several times.

2. Devil
To curse away devil/bad spirits - Mortar will contain holy water while pestle is used to stir the holy water and to distribute it wherever necessaries.

3. Sun
To make sun tan tattoo – place mortar and pestle anywhere you like on your body and at the same time, it is also tools for therapy.

4. Medical
Blood donation – use pestle to squeeze out blood and mortar used to contain blood.

5. Money
For dyeing money – place money inside mortar which is filled with dye then use pestle to stir until desired color is achieved.

Lesson 3 (Week 4): Mind Map

Here’s a link about how to create a mind map.

A quick and easy way on how to create a mind map. Most importantly how colors play an important role in creating a mind map.

Lesson 3 (Week 4): Mind Map [Feedback]

A simple mind map I made about myself. I used different colored markers to indicate different areas about me. The name ‘SYAH’ in the middle is a name that I am known among my circle of friends and it is in red because it resembles how I am in real life and it is one of my favorite color too!

Lesson 2 (Week 3): Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

NOVELTY

1. Something new or unusual
2. The quality or state of being novel : newness

INNOVATION

1. Something new or different introduced
2. The act of innovating; introduction to new things or methods

From normal cigarette that can cause health problems to e-cigarette.

May cost a lot more than a normal one box of cigarettes but at least, these cigarettes are rechargeable. Saves you a lot of money!

Not sure if smokers are eager to buy it but some non-smokers are very excited to try one.

INVENTION

1. The act of inventing
2. Anything invented or devised
3. The power or faculty of inventing, devising, or originating

Normal iPod – iPod Touch – iPhone - iPad

A tablet computer designed as a platform for audio and visual media such as books, movies, musics, games, as well as web contents. It has the size and weight of a normal smartphones and laptop and also runs the same operating system as iPod Touch and iPhone. Unlike iPod Touch and iPhone, iPad is controlled by a multi-touch display sensitive up to 11 fingers. It uses Wi-Fi or 3G mobile data to get connected to the internet. iPad also can be use with keyboard, just use the iPad keyboard dock.

Lesson 2 (Week 3): Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention [Feedback]

Class exercise: Creating Image of a Public Figure

TIM BURTON

Famous for his dark, quirky themed movies such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and blockbusters like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Returns and recently Alice in Wonderland, Burton is an Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated American film director, producer, writer and artist.

His most valued friend and often seen in his movies is none other than Johnny Depp. Burton has directed 14 films as of 2010 and produced 9 as of 2009.

Rumors have said that Burton will be directing a 3D animation adaptation from the Addams Family. (Can’t wait! :D)

Lesson 1 (Week 2): Defining Creativity

I found this to be very amazing. I wonder how they had done it but job well done! Imagine how much patience they have to put in to make all this work.

Pictures above are mainly produced/craved by Mizuta Tasogare and Kato Jado. They said that because they have to make link after link, without breaking through very thin wood walls and with the graphite still intact within the pencil are tremendously difficult.

They must have a very strong will power and a lot of patience to do this!

Lesson 1 (Week 2): Defining Creativity [Feedback]

Creativity can be defined as generating new ideas or simply altering the old ones to make it more efficient to society. Lecturer had shown a lot of examples regarding how creativity could be achieved. What I learned is that you do not have to be a genius to be a creative person. It will always come naturally. You just basically need to explore more on the idea you have on your head.

Here is an image that I have created for my friend, Tan Zisheng.

I chose this serious picture of him because in actual fact, he is not a very serious guy at all. I smudged his face all over to get the look of an alien. He is a very nice and friendly person and loves to make people all around him laugh even those he barely know. I hope I was not too harsh making his face looked like this.

Week 1 Class Feedback

Week 1 was nothing much as the class just started. Its another 'media appreciation' and 'media culture' that we did back in foundation, somewhat similar to them.

Creative Studies class is quite an interesting one as I will get to learn about being creative and all matters surrounding it. Though interesting, I will still going to be sleepy as the class is 3 hours long!

Nevertheless, I hope to learn basically something that can be practical in my life ahead.
